how can i break the communication barrier?
there is this boy i have seen at a restaurant i go to. he is a waitor working part time here for the summer. he is really cute and i think he is as interested in me as i am in him. we have smiled to eachother a few times when he past by me and he’s winked at me meaningfully also.
the only problem: he is hungarian and only knows VERY LITTLE german and english…when i say VERY little, i mean it. FYI: i asked him “is mr. X (his boss) mean to u?” and he didn’t know what “mean” meant. is there a way i can learn enough hungarian to ask him out and have a good time on the date? any websites i can go to that can help (so far all those i have accessed teach something that is most definately NOT hungarian, coz he had no idea what i was saying when i gave it a shot. i probably said something either meaningless or very silly)
please help me …anyone!!
thanx.

Sign language? It’s universal. I know that’s not the most helpful answer, but I was just wondering…. how the hell does he get peoples orders right? Try using English words that he must have come across in the restaurant biz. Also try using negatives instead of opposites. Instead of the word “mean” say “not nice” It will sound wierd to you, but most other languages work this way so he will understand better. ie “Is Mr. X not nice to you?”

Try to teach him some English. I suppose he’ll be eager to learn (after all, he came to America to live and/or learn, didn’t he?). It’ll be useful for him, and you’ll both have fun.
